Four-season art studio
A fully climate-controlled, four-season backyard art studio designed to support creative work throughout the year.
The clients wanted a dedicated art studio that could operate independently for day-to-day use in every season. The building includes full plumbing and electrical service, a complete bathroom, laundry facilities for washing art fabrics and a ductless split system for year-round comfort.
From plan to completion
A full bathroom lets the clients work without regularly returning to the main house. The laundry was included specifically for washing the fabrics used in their art, with the plumbing and electrical systems coordinated as part of the new detached building.
A ductless split provides heating and cooling throughout the year. Skylights bring natural light into the workspace, while sliding glass doors allow the clients to adjust privacy without closing off the studio.
The siding, windows and doors were selected to match the newly renovated house, where we had previously completed framing work. The building was positioned and detailed to tie into the existing landscape rather than feel like a separate afterthought.
Planned and built
The early rendering helped confirm the building’s scale, exterior character and relationship to the existing house and landscape. The completed view shows how those decisions carried through to construction.
